October 5 Van Horne Elementary is again doing the “Walkathon” around Columbia Park at 1:30pm. Van Horne has been a consistent supporter of the Walkathon for over 25 years. The students  walked around Columbia Park, even when it rained!! They have raised a lot of money over the years for the Walkathon for Kids with Cancer and we very much appreciate their support.

Thank you Van Horne Elementary school

our founder

The Walkathon For Kids With Cancer was inspired and founded in 1989 by Mike Flanagan. Mike witnessed the challenges of a colleague’s six year old son who was diagnosed with cancer and became compelled to help out, so he started the Walkathon.

Since then hundreds of children and families have been supported by Mike’s noble and spirited vision of the Walkathon.

Sadly, Mike himself succumbed to cancer and passed away in 1993. The Walkathon has grown and continues to reach out to the children because of the financial contributions and fund raising events.
